Dr. Trueman’s practice is focused on procurement, counseling and enforcement of patent and design rights. Dr. Trueman’s particular interests include counseling and enforcement proceedings in parallel jurisdictions, and he has experience of civil procedures and patent litigation both in the U.S., Europe and Australasia. In particular, Dr. Trueman has advised clients in disputes involving the US, UK and Italy, UK and Germany, and the US and New Zealand; this experience leaves him well placed to counsel and represent clients involved in or contemplating multijurisdictional patent litigation. Dr. Trueman's recent representations include successful patent infringement proceedings (section 337) before the International Trade Commission resulting in the grant of a General Exclusion Order (Lexmark), and district court patent proceedings relating to superabsorbent polymers in sanitary products (Kimberly-Clark), slot- and video-gaming machines (WMS Gaming), and golf clubs (for one of the world’s largest sporting goods companies).
Dr. Trueman also represents clients in the chemical, healthcare and food industries in the preparation and prosecution of patents before the USPTO, and his counseling practice further includes freedom to practice opinion work and the negotiation of research agreements for one of the world’s largest food and beverage companies.
Dr. Trueman graduated with Distinction from the College of Law of England and Wales in London, England, and cum laude from Northwestern University School of Law, the latter while working at Banner & Witcoff. Dr. Trueman was awarded his Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Cambridge University’s Institute of Biotechnology.
