Darrell Mottley Elected D.C. Bar President-Elect
The D.C. Bar announced that Darrell G. Mottley, attorney and shareholder at Banner & Witcoff, was elected President-Elect of the D.C. Bar. Mr. Mottley will assume office on June 24, 2010 and will serve in that post for one year before becoming president.

Darrell Mottley currently chairs the Council on Sections, leading the Bar’s Sections with more than 28,000 members.
As Chair, he focuses on member issues and leads the development of a pilot for on-line section programming to enhance membership. He also implemented technology collaboration tools to efficiently use section leaders’ volunteer time.

“As President, I would focus on the Bar leadership initiative, the Strategic Plan, including, Sections, and Access to Justice. I would also promote the use of technology engagement, specifically social networking tools to promote flexible workplace environments and to emphasize the priorities of the Bar, including funding for the legal service community. I am uniquely positioned to advance the strategic goals of the D.C. Bar because of my technical background and history of Bar leadership.”

Darrell served on the D.C. Bar Strategic Planning Committee that developed the Bar’s priority goal areas. He was also Vice Chair of the Council on Sections and Co-Chair of the IP Law Section of the D.C. Bar. Darrell serves on the Board of the Bar Association of the District of Columbia. In the ABA Intellectual Property Law Section, he is a Vice Chair of a Division and is a member of the magazine editorial board. He is an American Bar Foundation Fellow and he strongly supports the Bar’s Pro Bono programs.

Darrell is a shareholder of Banner & Witcoff. He is a patent lawyer. He is a member of the firm’s Diversity Committee and helped create the firm’s Diversity Scholarship. Prior to his law career, he worked 13 years as an engineer in private practice, in the Federal Government, and as a commissioned Officer in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. Darrell earned his J.D., with honors, from The George Washington University; his M.B.A., and his B.S. in Engineering Science and Mechanics from Virginia Tech.

Darrell Mottley’s election as D.C. Bar President-Elect is covered by the Blog of the Legal Times, The Wall Street Journal Washington Business Journal and USA Today.
