Michael Harris focuses his practice on intellectual property litigation and counseling. He has successfully represented both intellectual property owners and accused infringers in all areas of litigation, including patent, trade secret, and unfair competition matters. His practice has involved a broad range of technologies, including computer generated presentation systems, phase shift assemblies for complex antenna systems, juice processing systems, golf clubs and golf equipment, air cushions for athletic shoes, electronic performance measuring devices for athletic shoes, contact lenses, floor cleaning systems, load transfer devices for the concrete flooring industry, railroad fastening systems, subscription television systems, and interactive video guides. Mr. Harris has significant experience in all aspects of litigation and counseling, including fact investigation, written discovery, depositions, claim construction hearings, trials, appeals, mediations, arbitrations, settlement negotiations and agreements, and licensing.
Mr. Harris graduated, cum laude, from the University of Illinois College of Law. He also served as the Internet Editor for The University of Illinois Journal of Law Technology & Policy. Mr. Harris earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, summa cum laude, from Valparaiso University.
Earlier, Mr. Harris was an electrical engineer for the State of Illinois Commerce Commission. As an engineer, he assisted in alternative retail electric supplier certification proceedings, in enforcement of the Illinois Underground Utility Facilities Damage Prevention Act, and in rulemaking regarding standards of service for electric meter service providers.
