Julie Brown Ackerman has experience in a variety of areas of intellectual property law, including client counseling, enforcement, and litigation of patents, trademarks, trade secrets, and copyrights. She also has experience in resolving false advertising, unfair competition and trademark counterfeiting disputes. She has actively participated in all phases of litigation, including discovery, motion practice, settlement negotiations, and trial preparation, and she has assisted with several jury and bench trials. She has also actively participated in drafting of several appellate briefs in the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Prior to working at Banner & Witcoff, Ltd., Ms. Ackerman served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Harry D. Leinenweber, United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Before attending law school, she worked as an Assistant Scientist at Glaxo Wellcome where she developed and validated analytical methods to support clinical trials; drafted various analytical methods and technical reports; and served on multi-disciplinary project team to manufacture clinical supplies.

Ms. Ackerman earned her B.A. in Chemistry, with honors, from Colgate University in 1993, where she earned the Joseph Thurner Prize for the best written honors thesis in the Chemistry Department. She graduated cum laude from Northwestern University School of Law in 1998, where she served as a Note and Comment Editor for the Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology.

Ms. Ackerman is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the State of Illinois, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the Northern District of Illinois. She is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Ms. Ackerman practices in the Chicago office of Banner & Witcoff, Ltd.
