
Mr. Cardy’s recent litigation experience includes representing CompX in both the International Trade Commission and the Eastern District of Virginia. The International Trade Commission invalidated all of the patent claims that were asserted against CompX. CompX also prevailed in the Eastern District of Virginia, where it counterclaimed by asserting its own patents. The jury awarded CompX over $19 million. Mr. Cardy participated in all aspects of these litigations, including developing case strategy, writing motions, conducting discovery, and examining witnesses at trial.
Before joining Banner & Witcoff, Mr. Cardy worked as a software consultant. He developed websites and custom-made software to suit his clients’ business needs. His clients ranged from sole proprietors to large companies, such as the Nasdaq Stock Market.
Mr. Cardy earned his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Virginia School of Law. He served as President of the Virginia Society of Law and Technology and Technology Editor of the Virginia Journal of Law and Technology. He also represented state employees in trials held before administrative law judges.
Mr. Cardy graduated summa cum laude from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering. Mr. Cardy supplemented his coursework at Maryland by participating in research teams. He developed expertise in steganography (information hiding), computer architecture, and evolutionary computation through his research.
